Russia and South Korea jointly develop new low-cost magnesium alloys

Russia's National Research University of Technology (NUST MISIS) and South Korea's LG company have jointly developed a new type of magnesium alloy for heat dissipation systems. Compared with aluminum alloys, it can reduce the weight of the heat dissipation system by one third while maintaining heat dissipation efficiency. Researchers said that magnesium alloys have always been flammable. The traditional method is to increase the ignition point by adding rare earth elements such as neodymium and lanthanum, but the cost is relatively high; new magnesium alloys can also be improved by adding elements such as silicon, zinc, calcium, and zirconium. The effect of ignition, and the cost is low. The research team is studying new components of magnesium alloys to achieve high strength, corrosion resistance, low cost and high thermal conductivity characteristics.
